2) Coursework Interview Analysis

The Interview: http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/2008/09/adam_joe_song_wars_world_exclu.html

The structure of this article is a question & answer based interview. Although the answers of the interviewee are in dept. The interview starts with an introduction to the duo of who they are & what they do. The interview asks them what they thought about 'Song Wars', then goes into further detail of there fans & there favourite songs.
The style of the interview is very informal; this is shown by the interviewee answers are not structured given a laid back feel. The style of the interview is very modern using modern day language 'GarageBand' and also use of swearing.
The tone is positive but not too light hearted. A down to earth feel which reflects on the interviewee's personality. Also the interview has humour ' Punks thought they were doing nothing by learning three chords, but that’s seen like quite a lot now.' this also gives the interview an positive tone.
A feature I saw in this therefore reflects on there income of which tells us there on a normal average income (radio presenters.) Also talking about that they are working on a lower BBC radio station this tells the reader that they are not to commonly known.
The influence of the journalist on the reader is that to have a positive attitude towards the interviewee 'sly genius' and start to like the duo. Also because the duo is down to earth & talk about ' common theme, ' the readers can relate to the interviewee. Also the intentions of the interview with the duo radio presenters is sell there new album 'Song Wars Volume One '

My first journalistic comment for the radio presenters Adam & Joe is that they seem like down to earth people, but have a Slight crazy side.
My second comment for the duo is that they are purely making these radio jingles on the radio for pure love for music & comedy.

1) Coursework Reader Profile Anaysis

NME Reader Profile

In the Reader Profile for NME the first section contains the main products of which that reader would buy or own. Then how much money they would spend on that product. So for this reader profile the reader would ‘£372 on clothes per year,’ ‘£667 on audio equipment per year.’ So due to that this reader can spend an fair amount of money on theses products, this tells the advertisers that this reader would be in working full time or part time. Also because the products are the first things to be mentioned, this would be the most important aspects impacted onto the Advertisers. Therefore this tells the advertisers exactly what kind of products NME would want in there magazine.

In the second section this tells the advertisers is the reader ‘in with technology.’ It also therefore tells the advertisers what kind of hobbies the reader participates with ‘Consoles & Games.’ Then finally tells the advertisers what things are most important to that reader. So therefore they like to enjoy themselves & have a happy go lucky life, clothing is very important, trying new drinks.

Then in the third section has all the personal information about that reader presented in statistics, ‘69% is male’ tells use this magazine is mainly aimed at men, ‘52% working full time’ & how many readers they have. This therefore grabs the advertisers attention by letting the advertisers that there is a good chance that there product will be sold due to that there are many readers. Then at the end the NME contact details.

The only comment I have to say for this reader profile is that there are only 3 sections therefore missing out the readers past information.

Mixmag Reader Profile

In the Reader profile of Mixmag, the first paragraph tells us what type of people they are, ‘They are the ones who make the happening music happen and the cool products cool’ so therefore tells us they are very cool & important people. The first paragraph also tells us straight away what type of music they listen to ‘clubbing.’

The second paragraph tells us about there interest ‘new fashion trend’ and also tells us what technology they like & how up to date they are, ‘they just have to have the latest mobile/ they’re the biggest downloader’s of music in the UK.’

The third paragraph tells us there personal detail & who they are, ‘median age/ mainly 26 - 72% male/ tend to be urban and single.’

The forth paragraph tells us there income & what products they would like to spend money on , ‘ Nights out ,Clothes, Tunes, The latest mobile and MP3 player’ This section has been set out in bullet points keeping it short & simple, this therefore keeps is plain for the advertiser to tell them that this reader would not spend to much money on products. This tells us then that this reader would mot likely be in education or in a part time job/ early full time job.

Then finally in the last paragraph it tells us some extra information of what the readers like, ‘Nearly 80% do not read another music magazine and they spend little time watching TV, especially at weekends.’ This is therefore telling the advertisers that TV or other magazine products would not be suitable for this magazine.

The differences between theses two audiences are that they both have different music interest rock, dance. That one has more interests than music so gaming/TV whilst the other magazine solely concentrates on music. Both audiences like to have a good time & both are in with technology. Then also both magazine audiences have different income telling us there different ages & what products they are able to afford.

Both magazines have different income bases so therefore would change the type of advertisers used on the magazines. So for example the types of products used for The NME magazines would be the latest games/consoles/ Drinks/ clothes/ shoes/ food/ New technology/ Audio equipment, DVDs Cds. Whilst in the Mixmag the products included in this magazine would be more music based, so the latest audio system, news tune downloads, dance albums, clothes, newest technology. But this time the audience for the Mixmag would have a lower status products due to that there income base is a lot lower than the income base for NME, due to that this audience could be in education or a part time job.

10) Preliminary task Evaluation

The things which I think worked well for my front cover was that the layout is has wording worked around the model, tennis ball & models school badge & all waste space is used (over models forehead). This therefore makes you drawn to that she is sports student of the year. Also the background behind the student is blue & white which goes with the masthead colour scheme & is very simple making the model stand out. Also how the masthead is slanted making the masthead look like it has been printed onto the magazine by letter print making it look very important. Also the use of fonts of having the 'BCHS' in a clear font then parts 'scope' changed by having the first letter in bold, 'C,O & P' is italic & having 'O' underlined making the 'O & P' joined together. This causes the 'Scope' to stand out more to the audience & because scope usually means something interesting, draws the audience into that part of the masthead. Also the size of the masthead & the main cover line makes that the first part the audience reads, showing that theses are the most important aspects of the magazine. Also short & catchy cover lines like ‘The good, the bad & the embarrassing’ also draw the reader into the magazine. Also the decoration of the two corners i think worked well with the magazine making the magazine look a little different.

The things of which I don't think worked well for my front cover was the use of to many colours for the cover lines. I also think that in the masthead the 'BCHS' should be in a white & the 'Scope' should be in a blue making those words be in more contrast to the background making the masthead stand out more. Also the layout of the magazine is like a lifestyle magazine & is not your typical layout for your school magazine. This then could cause confusing making the audience think this magazine at first is a lifestyle magazine.

The things of which I think worked well for the contents page was the use of font for the contents subjects, being very clear & visible letting the audience know what the contents is. Also the layout of the contents page is very typical therefore lets the audience recognise that this is the contents page. Also the masthead is very big, clear & bold making the audience straight away drawn to the masthead. The first three images I think worked well for the contents page because they draw the reader in & can be easily recognised to which article they belong to.

The things of which I don't think worked well for the contents page is that the images shouldn't be stretched; the colour of the border & title can strain the eyes making too much of an impact. The colours of the contents wording I think should be swapped round making the heading stand out more to the detail. Also the numbers on the images should also have more of a contrasting colour. Also the last image at bottom of column is not as clear as to which article it belongs to.

What I found the easiest was the front cover even though whilst I was making it I had to think very carefully how I was going to present it. The thing I found most difficult was making the contents page because of having to figure out the wording for the contents page, making the wording stand out & also trying to make a contents page layout. Therefore I have also now seen a lot more things wrong with my contents page.

9) Preliminary task Magazine Analysis

Media analysis magazines (Detail)

Masthead
The mast head is big, bold & clear showing the importance of the company’s name & making the masthead stand out and easy to read to the audience. For the masthead being so big, this is the first thing the audience eye would be drawn to. Also the colour of the masthead is pink showing us that the audience is female and also for a young audience of which the reader would look up to.

Image
The image on the magazine is a model of a woman, but not just nay woman but a woman who is recognises as Drew Barrymore. Her body language is rather confident, but also her smile makes her also look quiet cheeky but also could be took as quite seductive. Also the clothes that she is wearing is pink showing that this magazine is quite girly, therefore reflecting on there target audience. She is made up very well, not natural and her clothes are made of fur, this shows that she is rather wealthy, therefore reflecting on the, magazine as being glossy & wealthy.

Cover lines
The cover lines grab our attention, first about drew Barrymore, a real life story of a woman which the audience can relate to. Then things you can help & do go green. This even shows that everyone is trying to go green.

Third left
The third left tells us gossip & stories, which can draw us into the magazine. Also because some of the content is to do with sex this implies maybe this magazine is for an older audience, even if it does look very girly.

Main cover line
The main cover line is the ‘Real Woman Confess Their Sex Fantasies’. This draws us into the magazine because it is not the usual or sometimes even correct thing to speak about. Because the magazine company have gone over the line a little, this effect draws us even more in, wanting to know there sex secrets.

Model Credit
The model credit is ‘Drew, nearly single and talking about the guy she wants next.’ This draws us into the magazine because it is about someone famous and not the most common things that celebrity would tell magazines.

5) Preliminary task Magazine Name Choice

1) Youth's LOL
My first choice of a school magazine name is Youth's LOL. I don't think this idea will work because it is to varied and does imply that this magazine would be too sociable and doesn't really have any connections with school. Also 'Youth's' could be used for a too wide range age audience and 'LOL' could be taken as youths are funny. But using young language (slang) shows that this magazine is for young people.

2) Sch's R US
My Second choice is Sch's R US. Unlike the first choice is does straight away have connections to do with school and using young language shows that this magazine is for an younger audience. But my problem with this title is that it has connections to do with a toy shop. So i think that this title will not work.

3) Learn & Live
My next choice is Learn & Live. This does have connections to do with school by learning, then live your life by the way toy want to. It doesn't use young language which doesn't show it is for young people, but learning is aimed at young people. The only problem i would have with this title is that it could be used for an older audience, for example people in work who want to go further in education (collage/university.)

4) BCHS Scope

BCHS Scope is my final choice for my magazine name & this is the title i will be using on my school magazine. The reasons why i choose this title is that it was the top mark in my questionnaire of ' What name do you think would suite best the magazine? ' This title has both connections to schooling/education & socializing. Also abbreviations of our school name has been used, so therefore shows that this magazine is aimed at young people. Also when people think of someone 'digging the scope' they think of something interesting that will draw them into the magazine. Therefore thinking that the magazine will be very interesting.

For my second question most people thought that the best front cover image would be that it changes (8) so a mixture. Then followed by that is a group of students (6), then Event of the school (5), student (2), and no one thought School scene or school object. The other ideas thought of were Cartoon or stylish.
